Describing Things and Actions

Adjectives

Describe nouns (people, things). They answer 'What kind?'.

  • The car is fast.
  • She is a careful driver.
Adverbs

Describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They answer 'How?'.

  • He drives fast.
  • She drives carefully.

Many adverbs are formed by adding "-ly" to an adjective (e.g., careful -> carefully), but some are irregular (e.g., fast -> fast, good -> well).
